THE JJO's
Established back in 1979, the Jasper Junior Olympics is an annual children’s ski race held in beautiful Jasper, Alberta. Over the years the Jasper Junior Olympics has grown into one of the largest sanctioned Nancy Greene ski races in North America.
Every year over 400 Ski Racers, the Race Organizing Committee, over 200 Volunteers and hundreds of race families converge at Marmot Basin to take part in this exciting two day event!
Day one sees racers between 4-11 year olds compete individually on 3 different courses over 2 runs for a coveted JJO Bell. Whereas on day 2, the format can vary. Each year the ROC tries to come up with a new spin on racing to make the second day at little more interesting. It can be a fully timed multi-disciplinary obstacle race, complete with spines, pro jumps, rollers and a mix of GS/SL gates or a leg killing full length course from top to bottom. Either way, it is an absolute blast for athletes, race fans and our ski community to watch.
This Race is a culmination of a season of training and races for athletes in the North Zone of Alberta which encompasses Edmonton, Kinosoo (Cold Lake), Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Red Deer and all the communities in between. Each of the 11 clubs pull together their resources to maintain a highly successful inter club collaboration, a real representation of Northern Alberta.

“The whole community for all of the North Zone really does pitch in to make this event successful. We have involvement with people in Edmonton, people in Jasper, as far as the different clubs, they pull all their resources together to make it a successful event,” says former Chief of Race Dave Clarke.
The Jasper Junior Olympics is ran through the Alberta North Zone Ski Racing Society (ANSRS). Every club in the north zone has a voice on the society and helps to guide the race. Any profits go back to supporting the efforts of the North Zone as a whole.
